Matt's Garage
Welcome, take a look around. If you're an old friend, I'm glad you made it-
please drop me a line, let me know what's happening with you. I've decided to
call this "Matt's Garage" since that was the name of the radio show
I did for about 5 years, and heck, cool things happen in garages.
I've had a website of one sort or another up since about 1993.
- About Me
-
If you came here searching for
"Matt Bennett",
from Google
(for example) how do you know you've got the right one? I'll Give you some hints.
I grew up in Prince George's County,
Maryland, went to
Virginia Tech and the
University of Maryland, and moved to
Austin,
Texas 1n 1998. I've worked for the
Army Research Laboratory, the
University of Texas
Applied Research Laboratories,
Andrew,
Dell,
Trident Research, and at the moment,
Microchip. I hope that's enough for a stalker
to find the right Matt. Gotta be chasing the right person, you know.
- Blog
- I've started my own weblog!
- Professional:
- I am an Electrical Engineer, I have a BSEE from
the University of Maryland,
and an MSEE from Johns Hopkins University.
I have experience with autonomous vehicles, analog and digital electronics, RF,
signal integrity,
DSP, Radar, UWB,
Ethernet,
and boom lifts. If you
would like to know about my professional career in more detail, check out my
(outdated) resume.
I'm always looking for new opportunities, technologies, and ideas to explore.
The engineering profession is dynamic and I love working with cool technology.
My goal is to work on things that make me want to say "Wow." I've toyed
with putting on my resume "Objective: Build cool shit."
- Un-Professional:
-
Electronics: not just as my vocation.
I've placed the details of a few of my projects for all to see. I've done a lot
with Microchip PIC
microcontrollers. I did some work with the
Java powered
Tini, from
Dallas Semiconductor/Maxim.
Robots: I've wanted to build robots since
I first learned what they were. It was what I did for high school science fairs
and much of my spare time. I have a few attempts for you to see.
Hazmat.com: The domain I've
been running since 1995. A few years back, I decided to document the
story of how it
came about. I've also used this as a place to play around with
CGI- you can search my music collection.
Spacenet:
Spacenet is a mailing list I run out of hazmat.com. It was started by Matt Baldwin,
who was originally a frequent contributor, and now I administrate the SPACENET list
and web site.
A collection of friends and passersby, we trade humor, cheap shots, and opinions.
Radio: A pastime where I was able to combine music and electronics. I was a DJ at
WMUC radio, 88.1 MHz in
College Park,
Maryland.
My show was "Matt's Garage" which was heard on Saturday nights from
9 PM to Midnight from September 1993 until January 1998. Before that, my show was heard
on Friday nights at the same time. I worked at
WMUC in various capacites from Chief
Engineer to board operator starting in 1987. I stopped doing my show in January 1998.
Before WMUC, in 1986 and 1987,
I worked at
WUVT at Virginia Tech in
Blacksburg,
Virginia.
Vehicles: Cars and Motorcycles. Pretty ridiculous
when I think about it.
- Personal:
-
Pictures: A bunch of pictures that I have
taken over the years. I don't have too many pictures of me. Too much glare from
my head.
